Running
Has running been dropping off since Factions? That's been my general impression. I know that running is virtually nonexistant in Cantha, but which Tyrian runs are still common?

I haven't seen 1. Are any other runs still remotely popular?

Desert runs are still common. All stops 250-300 G a stop. You see runs to Beacons from Ascalon, and backward runs from Lions Arch back to Ascalon with all stops along the way from players coming over from Cantha.
More so, you see mission runs in the Desert Missions, Sanctum Cay, and a couple of others. Infusion runs are common as well. Occasionally, I see runs to War Camp, Granite Citadel, and runs from Lions Arch or Bergens to ToA. People still do runs, they just aren't as prevelant anymore and are getting cheaper. |

Now the real way to handle this is to hybridize the Prophecies and Factions systems for travel/running.
Each location is unlocked, through primary quests, on a per-account basis. No newbs out of their depth. Lazy people, presumably a large majority of us, can get runs through on the second, third, eleventh, or thirty-sixth time. |

Speaking of lazy, I saw a level 20 necro asking for runs from Ice Tooth Cave to Yak's Bend the other day. I guess grabbing henchies and just going on his own was too much work.

Factions has pretty much trained a lot of people out of running by making it too difficult. the combination of using completed quests to talk to npc's to get through + mob combos that kill/slow runners enough to make it not worth trying have certainly trained me out of it. poison rangers + slow/degen mesmers... or trapper rangers + poison rangers or degen mesmers... or hamstring warriors... or huge popup groups that tag you before you can get far... whatever it is, they slow you down and raise the bar for running to a point where it's just not worth it.
i certainly haven't seen any LFR/runner spam in cantha in a very long time... and even then, it was mostly only from marketplace to kaineng or vice versa, and now since the "clear" path between the two is well known, even that's gone away. to be honest, sometimes i don't mind the cantha "woah there, slow down boy" thing, but sometimes i really RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing hate how tedious even simple travel routes have become. as another poster mentioned, a hybrid solution might be more appealing. ch2 feels really linear and closed because of the locked gates issue, for example. ch1 feels alot more open because you can get anywhere you want if you can run there. i don't mind being challenged to get what i want, but don't cheese me out of it. eudas |
